At the end of last month, we attended a grand opening at Junior Achievement’s Detroit Finance Park located downtown.
This simulated city is reason to celebrate on its own. Finance Park is one of 23 programs that Junior Achievements offers that focuses on the importance of financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and preparing for the workplace. There are over 13,000 students who are currently involved in this program, all ranging from 7th-12th graders.
However, we were not only there to celebrate the Finance Park – we were there to celebrate the opening of the new storefront we are sponsoring! The Suburban Collection decided to team up with Junior Achievement to collaborate and open up a high-tech storefront that will prove invaluable to the futures of these students.
Our storefront will offer a workshop that will provide lessons into car-buying, as well as insight into budgeting, financing, and credit scores. Students who are interested can also learn more about what a career in the automotive industry would look like, including both sales and service.
Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan’s President and CEO Margaret Trimer-Hartley recently spoke on how important these lessons will be. In an article from Crain’s Detroit, Trimer-Hartley stated, “Transportation is a major part of life. Thanks to the generous investment by The Suburban Collection, about 13,000 students will learn how to make the right transportation choices given their budgets and their needs.”
We are the 14th business to sponsor a storefront at Finance Park and are so honored to play a role in all that JASEM is doing for Detroit students. Supporting our community is something that we will remain committed to. The youth is who will be the leaders and decision makers of tomorrow, so both The Suburban Collection and myself are passionate about investing in their futures.

To announce this opening to the public, our very own Gary Allgeier and JASEM’s Margaret Trimer-Hartley appeared on WJR Radio for a taping of “Opportunity Detroit” with Paul W. Smith!
